“Goat therapy is a joy that is a cross of dog, cat and horse therapy.

Animals will listen to the worst that you have done or will do and still love you anyways!”

Hello, I’m Jennifer, and alongside my daughter Janna, we operate J&J Second Chance Small Holdings. I grew up on a small farm surrounded by all kinds of animals, and that early connection shaped the path I’m on today.

After graduating, I served in the United States Army across several MOS’s and deployed to Iraq, where I was injured in combat. Recovery has been a long and ongoing journey, and animals played a huge role in helping me rebuild and find peace again. That healing experience inspired me to dedicate my life to giving animals—and people—a second chance.

When I retired from the military, I felt a strong pull to return to the small-farm life that grounded me growing up. We quickly realized that many goats and other animals needed safe, loving homes, and that our community could benefit from the joy and comfort these animals naturally give. That’s how our rescue began.

My daughter Janna, who is diagnosed with Autism and experiences panic attacks, finds incredible comfort and grounding in working with the animals. Whether she’s holding them on a tough day, talking about them, or simply sitting quietly among them, the connection she has with the goats has been nothing short of therapeutic. We’ve seen that same healing power work for many others—children, adults, veterans, and anyone who needs a peaceful moment. Goats have a way of listening without judgment and offering calm companionship.

In addition to caring for over 250 goats and many other rescued animals, we host “Goat Therapy” sessions for the local community. These events offer people a space to relax, laugh, and find a little joy through petting, talking to, or holding the animals. It’s a simple but powerful form of emotional support that blends the comforting qualities of dogs, cats, and horses into one unique experience.

As a veteran-run rescue, we are also deeply committed to supporting fellow veterans. We understand the challenges many of us face after service, and we strive to create a welcoming, peaceful space where veterans can reconnect, decompress, and feel supported. Whether it’s through quiet time with the animals or being part of a community that understands, we want this to be a place of healing.

We are always looking to connect with other veterans, organizations, and community members who share our passion for service, healing, and animal welfare. Whether through collaboration, volunteering, or simply sharing resources, your support can help us expand our mission and continue offering hope to both animals and people.

I would truly love to connect with you, share experiences, and explore how we might support one another or work together in the future. Please feel free to reach out anytime.
